On a very wet, windy and freezing morning Pegasus produced some of their best football so far this season but didnt get the victory they deserved. Pegasus dominated from start to finish. In the first 15-20 minutes Pegasus created chance after chance with Mason having a couple of chances early on. Forcing the keeper to save well on both occasions. At the back George and Hugh were solid with Webby in goal alert to any danger even though he looked absolutely frozen. Omar in the middle was commanding throwing himself into every challenge. AJ up front linked the play well with Whelo and Mason on the wings. The first goal wasnt long in coming with the early dominance paying off. A quick throw in by Whelo to AJ who took the ball on the turn with the inside of his foot (just like Craig showed them in training this week) and held his marker off, he drove into the box before letting fly, beating the keeper all end up at the near post 1-0 Pegasus. The way Pegasus were playing Kimberley were finding it hard to get out of their own half and when they did George the first line of defence was snapping at their ankles, making the challenges to get Pegasus rolling again towards the Kimberley goal. Omar picked up one of these tackles and went on one of his now trade mark runs, bulldozing his way through to the edge of the area. The chance looked lost as he over ran the ball but Omar wasnt giving up on that ball and challenged the defender as he cleared the ball shooting across the area past AJ but straight the Whelo who in one movement controlled turned and fired home. 2-0 Pegasus. This spurred Kimberley on and the managed to push Pegasus back winning a couple of corners but the defence stood strong, Whelo with one great clearing header at the near post and Webby showed great courage saving at a Kimberley players feet in the crowded area when a goal look more likely. Kimberley pulled one back late on when a speculative short caught Webby out. It looked like he had it covered but it zipped up of the wet surface and squirmed through his arms. Pegasus went looking for a third with Whelo going closest after receiving the ball back from his own corner but he pulled his shot wide. Spud (how he got those boots WHITE after last week Ill never know) replaced Mason who had showed his usual trickery, even on that muddy surface. Second half was a much tighter affair with Kimberley playing down the slight slope pushing for a second while Pegasus looked for a third. Hugh had a lot more to do second half but showed his usual composure not being rushed and playing himself out of trouble on a couple of occasions. George and Omar were still putting themselves about making some superb tackles to turn defence into attack. Webby much busier and not looking half as frozen made at least 2 outstanding saves to keep Kimberley out and was unfortunate when Kimberley scored their second being left exposed. He managed to get something on it but the ball trickled towards the goal stopping in the mud on the line (not sure if it did cross the line). Brandon replace Hugh and was soon in the game making a couple of blocks and going on a run but instead of having a pop at goal played the ball out to Spud on the wing whos cross was blocked. AJ was hustling and bustling the Kimberley defenders forcing them in to hurried clearances but Pegasus werent able to capitalise. There were chances. AJ played through the middle by a precise Whelo pass flashed a shot just wide. Whelo headed just wide from a pin point Spud corner. Spud himself fizzed a shot just wide. Sammy replaced Whelo with Spud swapping from the left to the right. Sammy again showed some good touches and made some breaks down the wing but Kimberley managed to clear. AJ thought he had won it late on but the keeper somehow gathered his thunderous shot at the third attempt juggling the ball towards the goal. It wasnt to be for the boys today but the performance and desire shown was a credit to Craig.
