Under 10's Warriors 1
Russell Bollen (1)
Parkhill Reds 1

After beating Parkhill Reds the previous week we were hoping to finish 2008 with our first double of the season. However it wasn’t to be as Parkhill proved to be much tougher opponents this time around. It’s no excuse because it was the same for both sides, but the constant rain, wind and mud bath of a pitch prevented any free flowing football. In fact both teams deserve full credit for the way they kept going in horrible weather conditions. The early stages of the match were fairly tight with neither team giving much away. The game burst into life when the Warriors opened the scoring ten minutes before the break. A great pass from Holmzie sent Russell racing through and he coolly rounded the keeper before rolling the ball into the open net. They say the next few minutes following a goal are the most dangerous and this proved to be the case as we switched off and immediately conceded a Parkhill equaliser. As the conditions worsened the second half became a real battle and as legs tired the game really opened up with both sides having chances to take the lead. Thankfully for us Hitch was again in great form. With ten minutes remaining we came so close to a second goal, the keeper spilled a wonderful cross from Josh and Tom headed towards goal. Arjun looked certain to tap home but somehow the keeper managed to redeem himself to block on the line. Josh very nearly snatched the points in the last minute when his thundering free kick struck the left hand post. Although we were hoping to end the year with a win, a draw was probably a fair result. Well done lads for the effort you’ve all put in this year. It’s been a pleasure.

Man of the match – Russell Bollen. Cracking display and a great goal. With a bit of luck could have had three.
